We are joined by craft beer brewer and the co-founder of Toast Ale, Bianca Hansen. She joins us to talk a Toast Ale, a low carb beer that helps reduce food waste. They use surplus bread to brew the beer, with funds from its profits going to a local charity, Soil for Life.
Toast Ale is still fairly new on the market, having only being launched in the last quarter of 2017, in Cape Town, they do aim on also distributing it to the Gauteng Province soon. If one is not sold already on the beer by the fact that they work with a charity, then they can take comfort in knowing that it only contains 150 calories, opposed to the usual 220 calories found in a regular beer or glass of wine.
Their aim to help create jobs for the unemployed and to also give back to the environment at the same time, through their work with Soil for Life. The organisation that they work with, Soil for Life works within communities to help them establish how to grow and be able to maintain their own vegetable gardens.
