Chef Abigail Mbalo
Today in the loft we’re joined by the exceptional lady by the name of Chef Abigail Mbalo. Abigail who started off as a dental technologist is the founder of 4Roomed eKasi Culture: Fine dining in the township.
Coming from humble beginnings, Chef Abigail grew up with many influences around her which ended up determining what is now her flourishing career. She grew up with a nurturing and loving mother who invited all her 6 kids to always come cook with her in the kitchen of their 4room house. Little did she know those very memories would what inspire her to turn those experiences into what is known now as 4 Roomed eKasi Culture restaurant, her flourishing gourmet restaurant in Khayelitsha.
Swapping her lab coat for an apron is a decision that Chef Abigail has never regretted especially as the one of the core reasons for wanting to venture into the food realm was losing her brother to diabetes due to unhealthy eating habits. In her all her ventures she preaches and promotes the benefits of preparing traditional food with a healthier twist and is on an ongoing crusade to get Khayelitsha on the tourism map. Having had major success such as being a contestant on season 3 of Master Chef SA and the success of her business ventures, her bid to improve the numerous socio-economic struggles raging through the township is still an on going one and hopefully her crusade to improve eating habits will be realized.
Tune into SABC 3 at 4:30pm today as we Chef Abigail in the kitchen to Cook – A – Long with us.
