Pemba's Story

Beeno presents the story of a one-eyed Mozambican rescue dog named Pemba.

A holiday to a remote part of Mozambique turned into a rescue mission for a Johannesburg family, after finding a badly-beaten young Africanis dog at a resort in the town of Vilanculos, approximately 9 hours’ drive from Maputo. They named him Pemba.

Stray dogs are unwelcome at Mozambican resorts, with government instructing resorts to shoot them on sight due to rabies outbreaks. Pemba, an unwanted stray on the island was given a second chance.

Pemba is taking part in the Annual Walk the Talk event happening this weekend (26th July) in JHB! Why not join him to raise funds for charity? It’s a family affair so you can take your four-legged friends along (up to two dogs per person) for some fresh air and a good stretch for their little (or long) legs in the 5km and 8km routes. All pooches are catered for at the water points. But make sure your dogs are fit enough to finish the walk, trained on a leash, socialized around other dogs and able to be around large crowds of people. It’s bound to be a fun-filled day for the entire family!
