Daniel Elkin

My name is Daniel Elkin. I qualified with a Bachelor in Veterinary Science from University of Pretoria in 2013. I work at a quint, but very busy little practice in Seapoint, called Vetpoint. I am fortunate enough to practice under a highly skilled, experienced senior veterinarian, Dr Reena Cotton. My job challenges me, and I love that I have the opportunity to ease animals from pain and discomfort every single day.

I love to socialize in my spare time, even better, I love socializing whilst being “outdoorsy”. Living in Cape Town, my hours outside the practice are spent hiking, trailing running, kite and wind surfing, as well as surf skiing along the Atlanitic sea board.

I hope that my time spent on this show will equip owners with the tools and knowledge they need to better care for their animals, and hopefully keep those visits to the vet as infrequent as possible.

Current occupation: Veterinarian

City of birth: Born in Cape Town, although I grew up on an apple farm in Elgin.

Hobbies: Kiting, windsurfing, I love running, surf skiing. Managed to row for province in high school.

Favourite food: I love a massive lunch time spread of cold meats, cheeses, sauces and every topping under the sun, on a fresh, thickly buttered role… with a cup of tea to wash it down.

Favourite colour: That green, green of a freshly sprouting plant.

Date night idea: Nothing fancy. A few drinks in a friendly/vibey bar with some good pub food.

Favourite body part: I have always loved working with my HANDS- whether it was Lego, pottery, wood work..and eventually surgery.

Super Hero: Captain Planet- “he’s my hero”

Holiday destination: Kruger park, if we keeping it local. Otherwise Le Morne, south western tip of Mauritius.
