Adult Colouring Books
Nicky Stubbs chats to Afternoon Express about the adult colouring book trend.
In April of this year the No 1 Bestselling Book on Amazon.com was not the Pulitzer Prize winning “All the Light We Cannot See”, or the eagerly awaited new book in the “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” series - it was a colouring-in book - for Grown-Ups. This reflects a global trend that has been enthusiastically embraced by the South African public. Our guest, publisher Nicky Stubbs, is no stranger to this phenomenon.
The trend has become increasingly popular. The 'science' behind it is that, if kids can enjoy the relaxation of colouring in a picture, why can't adults enter the same relaxed state? This particulat branch of art therapy is also helpful among people dealing with a variety of other conditions, such as depression, dementia, anxiety, and PTSD.
