HintHunt - Stephen Schutte
HintHunt founder Stephen Schutte explains the popularity of the attraction.
Hint Hunt is a concept that started in the UK and has taken the world by storm. It’s a live escape game where you and your friends have to solve puzzles and try to get out of 3 rooms within the time limit. It’s basically the closest chance you have in the modern world to being Sherlock Holmes. The concept was brought to Cape Town a few years back and has become one of the mother city’s go-to tourist attractions.
On arrival at the nondescript Cape Town venue that houses HintHunt, an exhilarating group escape game, participants have almost no idea of what they’re actually in for. Quite oblivious to what’s to come, they’re led in groups of between three and six into a small, unfamiliar room, and the lock on the space’s only door is turned behind them. The clock starts ticking, and the team has only 60 minutes to collectively crack tough codes, decipher difficult puzzles, uncover hidden objects and unearth a series of clues in order to solve the conundrum at hand and secure their freedom before the hour is up.
