Episode 67 • 4 August 2015
Inspiring wheelchair tennis player Lucas Sithole is our special guest today.
On Afternoon Express, we love nothing more than people sharing their incredible stories, and today we have one that is just that. In the loft today is wheelchair tennis world champion, and no. 4 rank Lucas Sithole. Lucas lost both his legs and his right arm in a train accident but has gone on to win the US Open where he is the reigning champion.
Our First Women feature continues with Noluvuyiso Mpofu in the loft, an up and coming opera singer and final year post grad performance student at the UCT College of Music. Noluvuyiso was the youngest of 40 finalists from 21 countries who took part in the prestigious international Operalia competition in London recently, judged by a 14 strong international jury representing opera houses from all over the world, and led by Placido Domingo, she went on to earn third place overall.
Also on the show, we look at dealing with life after tragedy - quite the same Lucas has - and welcome two experts how talk us through the mental and physical process required to overcome trauma. In the kitchen, we create a salted caramel sauce with Selati and if you've got the time our main dish is a slow cooked tomato bredie.
